Pitso Mosimane has addressed the issue of George Maluleke moving to Sundowns, which many analysts and Pitso himself eluded to that it might have contributed to the Chiefs failing to win the league in the previous season.
Kaizer Chiefs were playing admirable soccer prior to the Corona-enforced suspension. When the teams resumed their game in the Bio-Bubble Chiefs were showing signs of disintegration and were dubbed the helicopter team as it seemed like they were just kicking the aerial balls forward hoping for header goals.
Chiefs seem to have missed the presence of George as he was the link between Lebogang Manyama and Samir Nurkovic. He could distribute the balls to those strikers which created problems for the opponent.
Pitso Mosimane (on the press conference that is doing rounds on social media) stated that “We did not take Maluleke from Chiefs, he also wanted to come to us. I asked him if he wanted to win the trophies, he must come here (to Sundowns), that side (at Chiefs) are you guaranteed? It’s a fact, I said reference is here”
If I was the coach at Chiefs, I would have kept Maluleke, but sometimes you need to understand that it is beyond the coaches, [it is] the club owners [decision]. It is me [Pitso’s decision], I have done it [before], Calvin Marlin had signed with Sundowns while I was still at Supersport United, he played all the games.” Pitso continued.
Do you think a credible player like George will score an own goal for us, no man these guys are professionals, his integrity has been there for 8 and he wouldn’t want to spoil that. If he does that, we would also say who did we sign here. I think Chiefs missed him”
