Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos was delighted with his side’s performance in the international friendly win against neighbours Mozambique.
Bafana came back from a goal down to beat the Mambas 2-1 at Mbombela Stadium on Thursday evening.
“It’s not only the win it’s also the way we won,” Broos told reporters after the game.
“I think we played a very good game. We [made] a little mistake at the beginning of the game, so it was 1-0 for Mozambique. But we controlled the game from the first until last minute.”
Despite the win and the dominant performance from Bafana, Broos was unhappy with his team’s defending especially goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams, who played a huge part in Mozambique’s opener.
“Ronwen (Williams) a few times, and I’m not used to that from him, because when there is a ‘keeper who is strong with his feet, it’s Ronwen, and twice he did dangerous things. Those were the only moments… except the ball on the post… that I can think of an opportunity for Mozambique.”
“We dominated and played good football, sometimes one-touch football. We had 10 chances all game and I think we can be happy with the performance. I’m not only happy, I’m also proud of the team.
“We saw something in September (friendly wins against Sierra Leone and Botswana) and we worked on it the last few days. We spoke with the players and it’s a good thing to see for a coach… that what you ask as a coach, that the players do it on the pitch.
“So, that gives us more confidence and we will try to win the game on Sunday (against Angola) and if we can achieve that then I think we are more than ready for the important games in March,” concluded Broos.
Bafana next host Angola at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday at 15:00.
