With Nedbank games resumption date confirmed for the 8th of August, Pitso Mosimane’s Mamelodi Sundowns will be chasing their third Nedbank final play, since Pitso took over as a coach. Unfortunately, in the past two occasions, Sundowns failed to win and ended up as runners up. Pitso last won the Nedbank Cup in 2004 while still the coach of Supersport United.
Mamelodi Sundowns have been pitted against the giant killer Bidvest Wits. This will definitely be the game to watch on the day. It will also demonstrate the impact of COVID on the league as Sundowns had gained the momentum just before the lockdown.
As this is the final cup tournaments that Wits will be playing, since they have been bought by TTM, it will be interesting to see if they will want to bid farewell with a bang of winning the Nedbank Cup, which would push TTM to attend the CAF Tournament next year.
Mamelodi Sundowns have since brought in numerous new signings, notably, they signed George Maluleke from their fellow PSL League contenders Kaizer Chiefs, whose eligibility to play in this game has not been confirmed by the PSL or SAFA.
