Ugandan born South Sudan striker Tito Okello vows to hunt down his native country where he has played football from his school days to professional level that saw him play for clubs like KCCA FC, Vipers SC before joining Gor Mahia of Kenya.
Having won 2 league titles with Vipers and KCCA FC, Tito Okello was not considered for the Uganda Cranes call up, thus he decided to play for this native country South Sudan ahead of the AFCON Qualifiers 2021.
His decision was a surprise to many who believed his chance with The Cranes would surface any time after helping Vipers SC win their 4th league title.
“I feel am in the better place to represent the country that has my roots. Having waited for long, this is the right moment to deliver and take my career to a new level. I am a professional who has what it takes to lift my country”, he said.
Tito Okello is one of the abroad based players summoned by South Sudan for the AFCON qualifiers double header against neighbors Uganda, firstly in Kampala on Thursday (12 November) and four days later in Nairobi, Kenya.
“I have played at almost every stadium in Kampala which is an advantage to me. I can comfortably spy on The Cranes in every department to make sure we get a result from both games, and especially in Kampala”, he added.
The experienced forward has featured for KCCA FC, BUL FC, African Lyon, Mbeya City and Benfica Macau in China.
Okello has played with most of the Uganda Cranes players in the FUFA drum tournament, at KCCA FC and Vipers SC and against others in the Ugandan Premier League.
“I must say, the game against Uganda really means a lot to me and my nation South Sudan because we are all fighting to have a place in the AFCON. I felt betrayed by my own, because everyone saw it that I wasn’t given chance and I don’t have to explain it again. But if I score, I will celebrate the goal as usual for my country”, added the lanky striker.
Okello also feels, it will be a special moment for him returning to the stadium where he spent two seasons.
“It is really a dream comes true because after leaving St. Mary’s I still had in mind that one day I will be in that stadium again. It has been my home and I enjoyed every single moment at St. Mary’s Kitende,” he concluded.
