Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has apologised to the club fans after Amakhosi were knocked out of the Carling Knockout by rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Brazilians cruised into the semifinals of the competition after they dispatched a 10-man Chiefs 4-0 at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
A first-half brace from Iqraam Rayners put Nasreddine Nabi’s side on the back foot and Peter Shalulile added a third goal before halftime, with Khuliso Mudau wrapping up the scoring just before the hour mark.
“Apologies to the fans today, we are very sorry,” said Nabi after the game.
“I present my congratulations for my colleague (Manqoba Mngqithi). I’m very sorry for this outing.
“From the backline, from the goal to the front, nothing that we have worked on worked today.”
Nabi added that the red card to Inacio Miguel made things more difficult for them. Miguel received his marching orders on 54 minutes for a foul on Shalulile just outside the box, having already been booked at the end of the first half.
“We wanted to have reaction coming into the second half, but the red card that we got in the beginning of the second made is hard to come back but that’s how football is.
“I would like to finish by congratulating Mamelodi Sundowns, they had an amazing. When someone does something good we need to accept that.
“But we would like to apologise to our beautiful fans. We know they are waiting for a moment of joy for a long time. We will go back and work harder to give them what they are expecting from us,” commented Nabi.
