Nasreddine Nabi feels that Kaizer Chiefs were the better team and did not deserve to lose against Cape Town City.
The Citizens trumped the Amakhosi 1-0 at the Cape Town City on Sunday thanks to a strike early in the second half from Darwin Gonzalez.
The result saw Cape Town City – in their first match under returning ‘new’ coach Muhsin Ertugral – move up to 11th place on the log, and keep up their excellent recent record against Chiefs: the Citizens are now unbeaten in their last eight league matches (W6 D2) against the Soweto side.
As for the Amakhosi, this fourth league defeat of the season leaves them in seventh spot (just one point ahead of City) and they continue to search in vain for consistency.
“We feel that it’s not a game that we deserve to lose. Unfortunately, that’s football because we feel that we had control of the game, most of the time we were high,” said Nabi after the game.
“We were pressing well. We were creating opportunities, but we had a lack of good decisions, especially in the last third and especially in the first half. Sometimes, we took extra touches instead of playing early. Sometimes, playing too early instead of waiting.
“It’s been an issue that when we fail to score, we have to create a lot of opportunities. But this is football. The only thing we can do is go back and work,” he added.
“I don’t think that there is a need to talk about the defence because even the goal at the beginning was our own throw-in. It’s like a set piece.
“Our defenders have to go up. Probably we need to work better on the rest defence and everything after the throw-in. It’s a counter-attack which can happen, and the opportunities that we got had we managed to score one or two goals, we would not be talking about the defenders right now,” concluded Nabi.
The teams will return to Betway Premiership action on Wednesday, with City hosting Orlando Pirates and Chiefs at home to Stellenbosch FC.
