Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian international striker has been signed by Napoli from Lille. The signing to the Serie A is a record-breaking move as he was also congratulated by Nigeria’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare.

The striker, who scored 18 goals in 38 appearances for the Ligue 1 side in the 2019-20 season, moves to Naples in a deal reported to be worth €50 million (£45m/$59m).

Osimhen had been linked with several top European clubs following his impressive goalscoring season, including Arsenal and Liverpool, although he will appear in Serie A in the 2020-21 campaign.

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen’s humble beginnings from Olusosun, the Lagos area famed for its dumpsite, to the ambiance of one of Europe’s oldest cities, Naples, famed for its wealth of historical monuments, is truly one of football’s inspirational stories.

“I come from a place where so many dreams have died but I’m the kind of person who doesn’t give up irrespective of my situation. So, I was forced to go out and get myself a life,” Osimhen said.

According to Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, Osimhen will become one of the highest-paid players in the team behind Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly and forwards Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens.

No doubt, Osimhen’s is a true source of inspiration to Nigeria and the rest of Africa.
