Football fans across South Africa and beyond are calling on the Premier Soccer League officials to postpone Mamelodi Sundowns’ DStv Premiership match against TS Galaxy at Loftus Stadium tonight, a fixture the club had requested be postponed in memory of Motjeka Madisha which was scheduled to kick off at 7.30 pm.
Reasons given for the refusal are as follows:
Adequate notice period (Rule 9.7 says member clubs need to submit a written request for the fixture change at least 10 days prior to the game). The league has the discretion to refuse or grant permission.
Fixture changes to be granted under “exceptional circumstances”.
In the same letter, the league said it had obligations to its commercial partners and hence needed a “stable fixture”.
The football fraternity are using #PostponeSundownsMatch to voice their requests and some users are blaming the PSL for ignoring their demands.
The South African Football Players Union also agrees with the football fans on the request for the players needing time to mourn with their official statement.
“SAFPU strongly believes that Mamelodi Sundowns has a strong case to call off their game scheduled for tonight”, said SAFPU

I remember @OfficialPSL postponed the Chiefs vs Leopards game simply because Chiefs players needed to prepare
And then there’s that personal vendetta against @Masandawana 🤦🏽♂️
All we asking for is just one postponement, one fela, Let us grieve in peace.#PostponeSundownsMatch

This one’s double standards are very clear, he can’t even hide anything. If it’s Chiefs and Pirates, everything stops, if it’s Sundowns, we always have to try #AgainsAllOdds #PostponeSundownsMatch #PostponeSundownsMatch #PostponeSundownsMatch #PostponeSundownsMatch pic.twitter.com/hkd0ekWPy3

One thing Irvin Khoza and the yes group in the @OfficialPSL must know is that,Mamelodi Sundowns FC always faced many challenges because of their recent success and removing the so-called Soweto giants from the top but we conquered them.We all remember the #AgainstAllOdds tag… pic.twitter.com/GT2kk7zhC0
