Kaizer Chiefs has issued a statement to confirm that their Football Manager Bobby Motaung has been suspended with immediate effect. This means Bobby will not be accompanying the Kaizer Chiefs team when they check into the Bio-Bubble in the next few days.
Bobsteak as Bobby is affectionately known will also miss five of Kaizer Chiefs’ last eight games of the season, including the opening match between the tricky Bidvest Wits and the game deemed League Championship decider against Mamelodi Sundowns on the 27th of August 2020.
Bobby’s suspension came after he was seen on some videos and pictures taking part in a birthday celebration party, these videos and pictures were circulated on social media. These have been perceived as a contravention of the Covid-19 regulations as provided by the government. President Cyril Ramaphosa has clearly stated that people should refrain from unnecessary gathering, and maintain social distancing while wearing the face masks, all of the aforementioned protocols were clearly contravened in the videos that was circulated.
It is not clear if the warning by South Africa’s sports minister Minister Nathi Mthethwa as reported in other media houses on Sunday to the PSL regarding the breaking of the lockdown rules was derived from this incident. As a football manager, he is expected to lead by example, especially to the players who are also expected to toe the line in these challenging times.
Bobby has recently celebrated his 50th birthday in the past few weeks in Kgabalatsane in North West. It is also not clear whose birthday he was attending when the videos were taken or whether he was still celebrating his own birthday.
Kaizer Chiefs website has reported that Bobby is in self-quarantine and has not tested positive for COVID 19.
