Preview: Mamelodi Sundowns versus Orlando Pirates

The next round of fixtures will be between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates on the 11th of August at the Dobsonville Stadium. This is a crucial game as this will determine if Pitso Mosiamane’s men will catch up to the log leaders Amakhosi or remain four points behind them.

Based on the discussion with some soccer experts, it is predicted that Mamelodi Sundowns might just edge Orlando Pirate by a small margin. This is attributed to a sharp scoring skill that Sundowns demonstrated when playing with Bidvest Wits in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

Although Bidvest Wits lost 3 – 2 to Sundowns, Wits had come back twice in that game which showed that Sundowns backline was not yet gelled together. This was also demonstrated when their star goalkeeper Dennis Onyango made a few fumbles during the game.

Orlando Pirates will be playing their first game since the re-opening from the Covid-19 soccer games suspension. This means the sea robbers have not played a competitive game in about 5 months. And this will be Sundown’s second competitive game in 3 days.

Pitso Mosimane would have taken the lesson from the previous game and analysis, as one of the hard worker coaches in the PSL, he would have worked on fixing those gaps.

Last time Pirates played Sundowns in Orlando Stadium on the 15 January 2020, Pirates won by 1 – 0 from Gabadinho Mhango’s 30th minutes’ goal, under the management of Rhulani Mokwena.
