Highland Park hosted Mamemoldi Sundowns at Dobsonville Stadium at 18h00. This was the 3rd competitive game for Sundowns and the first one for Highlands Park.
Peter Shalulile opened the score on the 6th minute with a ball that had hit his hand… Sundowns started applying pressure on Highlands Park and managed to find the equalizer from Sphelele Mkhulise’s header in the 40th minute.
At Half time the score was Highlands Park 1 – 1 Sundowns. No goals we scored in the second half of the game.
A win for Mamelodi Sundowns would have reduced the gaps between themselves and log leaders Amakhosi to one point.
Sphelele Mkhulise said that they came to the game with an intention of winning it, but as a team, they would take the point and move forward.
Owen Da Gama said he is happy with the team performance, especially considering the preparations and also that this is their first game post-Corona Matches Ban.
Highlands Park’s next game is against Chippa United on the 18th of August.
Highlands Park had 8 shots on goals and 3 on target.
Sundowns’ coach Pitso Mosimane stated that he is not happy with the point and the team was derailed by the first goal. He further stated that the team sees to lose the steam at the later stages of the game which is the same thing he noticed during the Pirates game as well. Pitso also covered for Madisha who made a minor mistake that led to the first goal “Madisha made a clearance against Pirates and people didn’t talk, was he that bade today, I don’t think so” Pitso stated. He also emphasized that players [moral] shouldn’t be killed due to minor mistakes
Sundowns had 9 goal attempts and 4 on target.
Sundowns next game on the 17th August is against Cape Town City, who beat Chippa United 1 – Nil this afternoon.
