Absa Premiership Champions: Chiefs or Sundowns

The current season almost resembles the 2014/2015 League when Kaizer Chiefs was under the management of Stuart Baxter. In the season the fans had to wait for the final matches for the champion to be crowned, as Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns were tail on tail fighting for the league.

This season Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs are again in the race to the premiership championship. Both teams have shown a bit of inconsistency and somewhat rusted since the resumption of the league.

Chiefs and Sundowns have played 25 games each, with 5 more games to go, this means there are still 15 points to play for. However, these teams still need to play each other on the 27th of August. Therefore, only one of the teams may get the maximum 15 points available.

In an event that all teams win their next 5 games including the one between each other, Chiefs will end up with 67 points and Sundowns will end up with 62 points.

In an event that these teams play a draw on the 27th of August in their match, they might end up with 65 and 60 points, Chiefs and Sundowns respectively.

Looking at their recent forms, Chiefs has won 2 of their last 5 games, drew 1 and lost 2. Sundowns have won 1 of their last games, drew 3 and lost 1. These forms do not demonstrate the straight cut of the league winner or a team with more hunger for the championship.

Chiefs still have to play the following games
Stellebosch FC – 23 August
Sundowns – 27 August
Bidvest Wits – 30 August
Chippa United – 02 September
Baroka – 09 September

Sundowns still have to play the following games
Golden Arrows – 24 August
Chiefs – 27 August
Baroka – 30 August
Polokwane City – 02 September
Leopards – 05 September
