Polokwane City has been technically relegated from the Absa Premiership, after spending 7 seasons in the PSL since joining the league in 2012 season. Polokwane City Chairman Mogaladi purchased the status of Port Elizabeth based Bay United. Rise and Shine used the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane as their home ground.
Mathematically Polokwane City can still play in the playoffs if they manage to score at least 7 goals against Bidvest Wits on Saturday and not concede anything. This way they will topple Baroka on the second last position. For this to be possible, Baroka must also lose the game.
Polokwane City campaigned in the NFD (now GladAfrica Championship) in 2012-13 season and were promoted to the Absa Premiership in May 2013.
In the time the Polokwane City were in the Absa Premiership, unfortunately they failed to win any trophy in offer.

The most notable coaches will be the infamous Luc Eymael who spent eight months at Polokwane City. He found Polokwane City fighting relegation between positions 16 and 14. He managed to get the team to the 5th position which is the highest that the team reached in their stay in Absa Premiership. Eymael then resigned amidst rumors he was going to join Bloemfontein Celtic on a 2 and half year deal. This led to a scuffle between Eymael and Polokwane City Officials, where Eymael told the media “I have a black belt in karate. I am not scared of anybody, but I made a promise to my wife that I wouldn’t fight,”.
