Mamelodi Sundowns have been crowned Absa Premiership champions for a third straight season on the final day of the campaign.
The Brazilians hosted Black Leopards at the Dobsonville Stadium, Pitso’s men had 36 shots with 13 shots on target while Black Leopards had 8 shots with zero shots on target. The Chloorkop side had 68% possession while the Limpopo side had 32%.
Pitso’s men were very determined as they overtook the log leaders Amakhosi on goal difference and points.
Pitso Mosimane’s charges had a glorious chance to break the deadlock in the 32nd minute after they were awarded a penalty for a lunging tackle by Khomotso Masia on Zwane inside the box. However, Ricardo Nascimento’s penalty was saved by goalkeeper King Ndlovu, who also kept out the rebound.
Motjeka Madisha came very close to giving Sundowns the lead just before the break with a powerful header that crashed against the top upright from Sirino’s lofted free-kick before Zwane also hit the inside of the post with a strike from close range.
But Maboe eventually broke the deadlock for Sundowns in the last action of the half with a close-range header into a gaping net from Zwane’s cross.
“La Decima achieved! Mamelodi Sundowns have been crowned the 2019/2020 #AbsaPrem champions, it’s the 10th title in the Absa Prem era of the PSL. No other team has won it more than four times during this era, are they the greatest team in South Africa,” said SuperSport
